Arundhati Roy, she is an Indian author, actress and a political activist who was best known for the award winning novel “The God of small things" in 1997 and also having a involvement in environment and human rights . Her father was from Bengali tea planter and her mother was a Christian of Syrian descent as she challenged India inheritance laws by successfully suing for the rights of the Christian women to receive an equal share of her father’s estate. she had completed her education from school of planning and architecture, Delhi   Though Arundhati Roy trained as an architect , had little interest in design as she dreamed they instead of having a writing career, after the series of many  jobs like artist and aerobic instructor and she has been indulged in a controversy that in a film phoolan Devi, as one of the most wanted criminal because of this court case has been done and after sometimes, she returned to the novel she has begun to write it,1997 her debut novel “ The God of small things” the main purpose of writing is to address the problems faced by her homeland in the age of global capitalism . 

Arundhati Roy composed in a  lyrical language about  the south Asian themes and characters in a narratives at that time her book become the best Selling book and later in various television dramas , She mainly focuses on the contemporary politics and culture. Roy talk about the family as it also explores the relationship between brother and sister, grandparents and grandchildren as she just want to portray how families are forced to stick together and also how they fall apart from each other. As family love is being the best love on one side and on other hand a major issue too. The family relations in the novel are being complicated, confusing and frustrating etc. basically the story is based on the childhood experiences of fraternal twins in which their lives been destroyed by love the love laws She is a outspoken advocacy of the human rights for this she was awarded the lannan cultural freedom award in 2002.

Summary

The god of small things tells the story of a family in a town ayemenem in kerala, India. Pappachi discoveres the new breed of moth as its been the biggest thins that has happened to him.as it told that its an abnormal breed of an existing species, later on its been decided that they were wrong but the thing is moth be named after the different scientish as pappachi sent this fot the rest of life . pappachi is married to mammachi, who is an violinist , whom he beats. Later on the have two children a daughter named ammu and a son named chacko, goes fot the studies in Rhodes scholar at oxford and where he marries a white women named margarent  and then they also had a daughter named sophie and while she is pregnant at that time margarent fall in love with a guy named joe , with whom she married after taking the divorce from chacko at that moment he was heartbroken because of leaving him alone in his life by Margaret then he decided to return baolic but also speak lies whether big or small for no reason. 

One day baba loses his job and his boss offered him a condition to be back on job if he would allow him to sleep with his wife ammu but ammu refuses and he beats him and later on she decided to leave his home so she take the kids and move back to ayemenem . we talk about the major chunk which took place in 1969 when the twins were 7 years old at that time joe being killed in a car accident and then chacko invites the grieving Margaret kochamma and sophie mol for coming back to ayemenem for the holidays and for the welcoming of them chacko ammu, baby kochamma, estha, and rahel drive to cochin to get them from airpot .rahel is really excited to see velutha, the one who does the maintenance work at paradise picles and preserves.the family goes to see the sounds of music as it’s a favorite movie, estha has to stand alone in the lobby because he cant stop singing, while standing alone in the lobby he is being molested by the orange drink lemon drink man and through this estha fills with unending fear.

Conclusion 

whole family stay in the hotel over night and on the next day they meet sophie mol and Margaret kochamma at the airpot. As rahel being aware that ammu will love sophie mol more than she loved her and she feel as if playing a supporting role in a play where sophie mole is the star. After that she suddenly run off to talk to velutha and telling him that she saw him in the march ,she tell that were the lost twin they realizes that ammu and velitha dig each other in a major way. Meanwhile estha being terrified because of the orangedrink amd lemondrink because ,can come any time for him.having a thought in mind that anything can happen any time so its best to prepare for it.estha thought of taking a boat and going to the history house a deserted home that belongs to a English man who now goes to his homeland and having a thought that their they cannot find him.

Vellya paapen velutha dad had come to the door and crying at that time he tells about ammu and velitha are lovers to mamachi and baby kochamma. Velutha is babically from the lower class in the society where as ammu belongs to the higher claas and at that time these kind of affairs are being unheared of suddenly they went in the room of Ammu and locked her , when esha and rahel goes to ammu and asked her that why she is been locked here at that moment she replied that its because of them only. So they both decided to get out of her, when estha and velutha were on the way suddenly a log collides with the boat and boat gets disbalance nd fall in the water somehow thy were able to swim and go to other side but at that moment when they called for sophie mol , she don’t respond so they think that might be she is been drowed.velutha is sleeping in a ccorner of that white house waiting for ammu to meet him. In the time mammachi and baby kochamma decided to get velutha to go from the town so that the family can be avoided t o the shame being associated with him.but the problem is a the time they executed the plan sophie mol body was founded after that they made a second plan that baby kochamma goes to the police and make story that velutha tried to rape ammu and kidnapped the kids. 

Police come in action and goes to the white house beat him a lot and take him with them and this accident being looked by estha and Rahel .later on baby Kochamma  went to the police and tell that she has no case and estha and Rahel  not kidnapped.
